Sykehouse Cottage

A beautiful C17th Holiday Cottage in the Lake District

Things to Do

Sykehouse Cottage makes a wonderful base for touring the South Lakes, far enough away from the crowds but near enough to pop in for a day trip to the main tourist attractions.

Our favourite excursions are:

Tarn Hows: 13 miles / 30 mins drive.  If you want to read my post about the place, click here.

Blackwell: 20 miles / 35 mins drive. If you want to read my post about the Blackwell, click here.

Grizedale Forest: 16 miles / 30 mins drive.  My post about their sculpture trail is here.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway: 13 miles / 30 mins drive.  You can find more about the La’al Ratty here.

Muncaster Castle: 12 miles / 30 mins drive.  Further details can be found and a link to their website can be found here.

Coniston : 9 miles / 20 mins drive.  I have written about the Ruskin Museum here and a snowy walk around the Copper Mines here.

Around Broughton, there are two local attractions: Duddon Mosses and Duddon Iron Furnace.

If you’re looking for something more organised, Path to Adventure can provide a wide range of activities which can be tailored to suit your group. Heather & Alistair say: “Whether you are looking for peace and tranquillity, thrills and adrenaline, friendship and laughter or just some time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you’ll find it with us in amongst the majestic mountains, tranquil forests and flowing rivers.”
