The town of Coniston (about 7 miles away) is famous for a number of reasons: John Ruskin’s Brantwood House; Donald Campbell and his famous water speed record attempts; Coniston’s Old Man, a favourite with walkers; and the setting for Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons.
